What is WYNN?
WYNN is software that helps you read, study, and comprehend text more easily and
effectively. WYNN is an exciting new product from Arkenstone, leading maker of software
reading tools for people with visual disabilities. Used with a standard PC, WYNN
lets you open a file and hear it read aloud. Or, you can scan a page using a flatbed
scanner, and read that aloud. Once you open a file, you can alter the way the page is
presented on the screen as well as the way it is read aloud to you. You can also
insert notes and bookmarks, highlight sections, or look up words in the dictionary.
You can use WYNN in the classroom or workplace. Although the software was designed with
the guidance of students and adults with Specific Learning Disability and special
educators, WYNN is also helpful for people who do not have a diagnosed reading disability,
but find reading difficult, unpleasant, or laborious. And WYNN is a valuable tool
for teachers and therapists who work with individuals with reading difficulties. If
you want to read more easily and more effectively, WYNN is for you!
WYNN tool bars are intuitive and easy to learn. All have large buttons that are
labeled with both pictures and words. This gives WYNN a very short learning curve.
Here's the File Management tool bar. On this tool bar are buttons to help you scan a
page, open, close, save, and print files, and copy text to the clipboard. Like the
other three tool bars, this one includes the Next, Read, and Help buttons.

This is the Visual Presentation tool bar. On this tool bar are buttons that let you
control how WYNN presents the document page: the size of the text, spacing, and margins,
and the type of font used. There's also a button that lets you choose specific
combinations of text and background colors, to make the page more readable for you.

Below is the Study Tools tool bar. These buttons give you access to a dictionary and a
thesaurus, allow you to add a bookmark, text or voice note to the document; or highlight a
section of text. You can also ask WYNN to find a specific word in the document, spell a
word aloud, or break it into syllables.

Finally, this is the Reading Options tool bar, with buttons that help you adjust
the size and style of the Spotlight, select how fast WYNN reads and at what volume, and
determine what screen elements WYNN speaks aloud. There's also a button that lets you
"mask out" everything on the document page except the section you wish to read.

Based on extensive field research, WYNN was defined and developed with the cooperation of
both LD students and by special educators. Many of the features were suggested by special
education teachers. They gave WYNN the benefit of their experience with students who have
dyslexia or other reading difficulties.
WYNN uses a bimodal approach, presenting material simultaneously in auditory and visual
modes. Research has shown that this approach significantly increases reading concentration
and retention

WYNN incorporates the traditional study aids that LD teachers and students use --
highlighting, bookmarks, masking, ruler guides, and text and voice annotations. -- into a
software product.
WYNN spotlight focuses the reader's attention on the specified chunk of text. WYNN
also allows the user to increase the line and word spacing and adjust margins, enabling
the reader to more easily decode and comprehend the reading material.
WYNN gives users control of their reading and study process and helps people use their
strengths to strengthen their weaknesses.
The WYNN Datasheet
At last, software for people with reading challenges! If you find reading a chore,
you'll appreciate how WYNN easy-to-use tool bars let you modify the page to suit your
individual needs. Standard settings give you a foundation from which to work with
your strengths while helping you compensate for reading difficulties. And you can
easily modify the settings to suit your particular reading needs.
Text too small and crowded? WYNN can enlarge it, or change the spacing between lines
or even characters. Having trouble following from word to word? Expand or contract the
Spotlight, to emphasize larger or smaller amounts of text, or change the color of the
cursor. You can also mask out distracting sections of the page.
Would you comprehend more if you could see the words and hear them at the same time? WYNN
can read your text out loud with a speech synthesizer. Look up words in the dictionary,
hear them spelled aloud, break them into syllables -- WYNN easy-to-use graphic tool bar
helps you crack the code! And WYNN even lets you highlight important passages, insert
bookmarks, and add written or spoken notes, so you can summarize important sections in
your own words.
WYNN is great for school or the workplace, if you have a reading disability, or just want
to read efficiently, effectively and easily. If you want to be a reading winner, we have
